About the Business
Jaycees Brantford Non-Profit Homes Corporation (“Jaycee Homes”) focuses on building strong families and communities by providing stable, safe, affordable homes. The non-profit corporation has been operating a portfolio of 89 affordable housing properties in the city since 1985.
About the Loan
Vancity Community Investment Bank (VCIB) provided a $900,000 first mortgage to support Jaycee Homes’ construction of an affordable housing project for women and women-led families, located on Bridge St. in Brantford, Ontario. VCIB also provided a $1,900,000 mortgage term loan to repatriate Jaycee Homes’ equity in the project.
About the Impact
Lack of women-specific housing and support drives women into emergency shelters and services that may not recognize them as homeless, are not designed to respond to their needs, and are underfunded and overwhelmed. As a result, many women remain trapped in traumatizing situations of homelessness and violence.
To help alleviate this problem, VCIB’s financing supported Jaycee Homes’ construction of a critical affordable housing project within Brantford. These 24 affordable units, reserved for women and women-led families, will allow women in the community to have quality living spaces while also ensuring stronger, more inclusive communities within the region.
